Interactive v1: real churches around Lorton / Springfield / Fairfax, VA plotted on a map, with denomination icons, a neutral Tradition-Adherence color scale, filters, and a “near me” finder. Mobile-first. Starting local, expanding outward.
The Problem

Finding a faith community is one of the most personal decisions someone can make — but the tools for finding one look like restaurant review sites. Star ratings flatten what should be a conversation about belief, belonging, and the kind of community a seeker is hoping to find.

Church leaders, meanwhile, have no good way to introduce themselves to seekers who would actually thrive in their congregation — and they pay for marketing tools built for businesses, not faith communities.

The Approach

A values-first matching model. Seekers describe what they're looking for in their own words — denomination, worship style, theological emphasis, community life, what they want for their kids. Churches describe themselves the same way.

No public ratings. No reviews. Private outreach, verified directory, free participation for churches. Revenue from optional premium tools for faith leaders — not from ad-targeting their members.

Three Founding Principles
01
Belonging, not ratings. Faith communities aren't products. The platform never publishes public reviews of churches. Discovery is conversational and values-driven, not popularity-driven.
02
Privacy-first messaging. Seekers stay anonymous until they choose to identify. No public profiles, no engagement metrics shown to other users. Conversations are between two parties — the seeker and the church.
03
Free for churches. The directory and the matching tools cost nothing to participating churches. Revenue comes from optional admin tools — events, donor stewardship, member care — that a church leader would actually pay for.
Where It Sits

Status: Concept · Pre-Design

Audience: Faith communities and seekers (US first; English-language)

Position in portfolio: Adjacent to Our Neighbors — both built on belonging-rather-than-rating mechanics. Pattern reuse is intentional.

Next decision: Define the values-matching schema with input from 5 pastors and 5 active seekers before any design work begins.

What This Isn't

· Not a church review site. No Yelp-for-churches.

· Not a streaming or content platform. Sermon archives belong on the church's own site.

· Not a social network. No feeds, no follows, no engagement metrics shown to members.

· Not denomination-specific. The matching model is built to surface fit across denominations, including non-denominational fellowships.
